On Water Instruction: In addition to local mentors from Minnesota and Wisconsin, joining us will be guest mentors from around the nation, predominately from the NE this year. Work on skills ranging from beginner to advanced levels, including rolling, harpooning, braces, and many other basic and advanced strokes. With a 3 to 1 student to mentor ratio, personalized instruction is a reality.
Aquilisaq Neoprene Workshop: In need of a spray skirt, but find they limit your movement while paddling and rolling? Try your hand at making a Greenland style neoprene aquilisaq! Starting Friday morning after breakfast, this workshop focuses on working with and gluing neoprene, used for both tuilik and aquilisaq construction. We will be making aquilisaqs in this course, which shares many of the same steps as tuilik making, while being quicker project. As the workshop begins early on Friday, the optional early Thursday arrival is required. Workshop enrollment is limited to 12.
Qajaq Skinning Demonstration: Join Jeff Bjorgo for a qajaq skining demostration Saturday afternoon following lunch. Canvas will be his covering of choice for this project.
Harpoon Contest '08: New format this year. Scoring is totally based on accuracy and deft qajaq handling abilities. Hunters will be seeded onto a ladder bracket. Three hunters at a time will chase and fire on the "sea mammal" that is being towed. Game safety will be carefully defined at the time of the competition. The first Hunter to strike the mammal is considered advantage in. After a strike, one additonal throw is allowed by the other hunters to tie the score. If no tie the advantage in hunter moves up the ladder bracket. If there is a tie then the match goes to sudden death. Hunting begins Sunday morning after breakfast.
Silent Auction: This auction will include tuiliks, robes, paddles, and even two skin-on-frame qajaqs. Many a treasure to be had! Bidding will last the entire weekend, ending after lunch on Sunday.
